Join an engaging panel of developers, architects, and community partners to unpack why designing and operating for accessibility and inclusion from the start can create a better resident experience while simultaneously saving costs and time for the developer. The cross-sector panel will discuss the benefits of accessible, human-centered design and how designing for people with disabilities provides a more equitable approach to housing for everyone. Attendees can implement these holistic practices immediately through accessing a new set of free multifamily housing design and operation standards co-created by advocates with and without disabilities, developers, and architects. The panel will include several case studies on disability-forward housing including the Kelsey Ayer Station and the Kelsey Civic Center, comprising 230 homes for people with and without disabilities in the Bay Area, designed with universal access and delivered with inclusive residential services; and 6 North, a universally designed, mixed-income residential community in St. Louis, Missouri.
