Erick Mikiten, AIA is a wheelchair-riding architect who has been reinventing what accessibility and inclusion are in multifamily housing for 30 years. His national leadership in Universal Design thinking, knowledge sharing, and building code development elevates the discourse on inclusive design. His own designs, and his work with other teams, creates new levels of equity globally. He started Mikiten Architecture in 1991 with Elisa Mikiten, an urban planner, and founded The Art of Access in 2021 to show the profession that inclusive designs can – and must – be creative and beautiful.
