The
late 2000s saw a big change in redevelopment of suburban downtowns. This tour will visit suburban downtowns (Grapevine, Carrollton and Plano) and a downtown style development (Addison Circle) to explore the role of transit in redevelopment of these suburban areas. The tour will include a discussion of the path, history, and timeline of redevelopment in each of these downtowns and draw parallels between the current and future trends that cause suburban urbanization. It will focus on elements/amenities that can boost struggling downtown districts and help them become economically viable centers of community again.
