A city of almost 500,000, Long Beach has a rich history and big ambitions for the future. Just 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, Long Beach is the entry point for $200 million in goods, a pioneer in the use of public/private partnerships, and the site of the innovative Space Beach, a partnership among university, city, and industry leaders to develop the aeronautic and astronautic professionals and companies of the future.

This daylong visit will include a stop at the Long Beach International Gateway Bridge, a major infrastructure improvement that supports the long-term success of Long Beach’s freight industry, and tours of the Long Beach Civic Center, which were delivered through an innovative public/private partnership that continues to deliver exceptional value for the city, the Port of Long Beach, the second-largest container port in the United States, as well as Space Beach, an innovative and forward-looking partnership among California State University–Long Beach, the city of Long Beach, and the aerospace industry that will develop the workforce needed for a vibrant space-focused industry cluster.
