The ULI Prize for Visionaries in Urban Development ( is the most prestigious and respected award in the land use planning and development community. The $100,000 prize, which ULI awards annually, spotlights individuals and organizations that have been on the cutting edge, employing innovative processes, techniques, strategies, and insights to encourage and to achieve the highest quality in development practices and policies at the global, national, or local levels.

This session, introduced by ULI trustee and former ULI Global Chair Marilyn Taylor, will feature the 2021 ULI Prize Laureate, Jonathan F.P. Rose, and the 2018 Laureate, Theaster Gates, in conversation with Maurice Cox, Commissioner, Department of Planning and Development (DPD), City of Chicago and ULI Prize jury member 2019–2021, discussing visions of how to create communities of opportunity that regenerate neighborhoods, addressing their environmental, social, and educational issues.
