Through the coordinated efforts of locally empowered public, private, and not-for-profit organizations, the city of Dallas has seen a recent renaissance in the planning, development, and delivery of parks and trails in the past two decades. This has translated into significant increases in three key areas of measurable success: social infrastructure, environmental services, and economic activity. This session will highlight key takeaways related to the power of parks, trails, and open space to act as a catalyst for economic activity at both the local scale and the regional scale. Through a focused review of primary source objective data and group discussion around firsthand anecdotal evidence supporting the thesis, participants will gain an understanding of how to leverage the power of parks and open space to generate value, attract investment, deliver community benefits, and create a civic legacy for years to come.
