Step into the heart of Watts and discover how a community came together to envision a stunning 75,000-square-foot community center and six-acre park, at the heart of a larger HACLA public and affordable housing redevelopment. Through innovative community engagement, the design process was transformed, resulting in a state-of-the-art facility that reflects the needs and desires of the community it serves by promoting discovery, mentorship, wellness, and community healing. But this project is more than just a building—it’s a catalyst that is strengthening community partnerships and organizations, empowering residents to forge new futures. Learn how this project is guided by a deep desire to inspire and uplift, build a sense of community, and address social injustices, including the unequal impacts of climate change. With ambitious sustainability targets that include net-zero energy and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification, this project is paving the way for a sustainable, equitable, and community-driven future that doesn’t displace residents. Join us on this journey of community-driven transformation.
