Murphy D. Cheatham II has long been committed to commercial real estate brokerage, real estate finance, talent development, affordable housing, and economic development throughout the United States and Latin America for 20+ years. Murphy began his career as a Leader in Energy Efficient Design (LEED) developer with The Modus Development Group managing the first LEED for Homes development in the state of Arizona, Galleries at Turney. He then excelled on to partnering with HDR, Inc. leading the strategic planning of over $300 million in mixed-use developments in Arizona, Florida, North Carolina and Texas.

With the success of his preceding projects, the City of Shreveport appointed Murphy to serve as the Chief of Housing and Business Development; making him the youngest person ever to hold the position. Focused on improving the quality of life in underserved communities, he successfully managed multi-million dollar budgets targeting revitalization programs to increase affordable housing options and fund small business growth’.

Among many career experiences, accomplishments and multi-million dollar deals, Murphy’s roles have included working with the National Development Council and leading affordable housing redevelopment projects funded by the department of Housing and Urban Development. Murphy also achieved the role of principal on the Memphis Pyramid, a $120 million economic redevelopment project.

As a proud alumnus of Grambling State University (GSU) and Arizona State University’s (ASU) Masters of Real Estate Development Program (MRED), Murphy currently serves on the GSU Foundation and was instrumental in creating the real estate partnership between Arizona State University’s MRED Program and Grambling to offer real estate courses at Grambling for GSU students to graduate with an added focus in Real Estate.

Currently as the DE&I Program Manager for CBRE, Murphy coaches a cohort of 77 diverse producers throughout the US across all asset types with a goal of being an established Commercial Real Estate Producer within 2 years. He also is responsible for initiating and managing relationships with the managing directors, operations managers, and lead brokers in CBRE’s top US 40 markets and across Latin America.
