External Partners Inspiring Cultural Change

“As an inner city kid growing up in a poverty stricken area I can relate to kids today who have internalized education as being meaningless. I placed all of my time, energy and effort to improve my basketball skills because I was convinced that it was my only way out of the hood. The only thing that I thought about was making it to the NBA. But after sustaining a career modifying injury it was education, not basketball that I owe my success. “Basketball was a tool I used as a vehicle to get out of the socioeconomically web that many at-risk kids are entangled in today.” (Kevin Miles) Mr. Miles contributes his success to God and a strong supportive family who believed in him enough to strategically assigned a diversified set of mentors. These personal and professional mentors aided his development by consistently lending their time, resources and expertise. Mr. Miles comes from a family of City Managers and Developers. His uncle, the late Terry Childress was one of the first African American city managers in the US. Mr. Childress graciously led Oklahoma City during very difficult times. Mr. Miles quickly embraced the importance of leadership as he interned with his uncle to help beautify Oklahoma City during a very racially charged period of time. Mr. Miles has a passion for urban planning and community development. He is currently serving as the Commercial Real Estate Course developer for Dallas Townview School of Business and Management and continues to serve as an adjunct instructor for Dallas College. Mr. Miles also serves as the Director of External Relations for Townview School of Business and Management where he works to develop strategic corporate and community relationships within the local business community.
