Mr. Derrick L. Tillman was raised in Pittsburgh and is a proud graduate of Westinghouse High School and the University of Pittsburgh where he received a Bachelor’s degree in information science. He is the cofounder of
Bridging the Gap Development, LLC (“BTG”), founded in 2006, which is a diversified real estate development firm based in Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Derrick L. Tillman, President & CEO of BTG, leads the company’s mission to rebuild sustainable communities through residential & commercial development by “bridging the [real estate and opportunity] gaps” in a community. In order to achieve this goal, BTG develops a variety of projects including multifamily affordable housing, mixed-income, market rate rental and homeownership properties, as well as mixed-use and commercial development projects. They are a leader in the industry through their transformative and innovative development projects that not only focus on improving and developing the built environment through building- buildings, but they are also focused on building people. The firm has also been able to use their business acumen to innovatively train many unemployed and underemployed individuals with construction and/or weatherization skills. BTG, itself a Minority Business Enterprise, is committed to providing opportunities to other M/WBEs. Tillman is a proud husband of 14 years and together he and his wife Nykia have three amazing children.
